We are beyond excited to announce that we have received the 2025 NARI Remodeler of the Year Regional Award for Residential Interior! See the stunning transformation we were able to achieve for our valued homeowner clients below in the before and after photos of this award-winning residential interior remodel!

The owners of this charming 1930 Storybook English Cottage had grown tired of their cramped, dreary kitchen. Storage was hard to come by and the drop-in sink and tiled countertops were impossible to keep clean. In addition to the dilapidated finishes, the kitchen felt very closed off and lacked charm compared to the rest of the house. It had become the primary yet lengthy route to the basement laundry, assuming you could narrowly squeeze your laundry basket through the doorway. The awkward appliance placement and lack of landing space would leave any chef deterred and uninspired. This couple loved to entertain and that was certainly not happening here.
We got to work creating the kitchen of their dreams! Supports in the basement and 2 beams in the kitchen were added, and the unused chimney and fireplace were eliminated. Opening up the walls between the kitchen, dining, and living room allowed for an expansive and functional layout. An elegant quartz island defines the kitchen with cozy seating tucked under a stunning waterfall. The perimeter cabinetry overflows with storage, broken up only by top-of-the-line appliances and a gorgeous custom wood hood. Glossy ceramic backsplash tile and understated glass pendant lights add sparkle to the room.

Great care was taken in retaining historic details throughout the home. We matched the original windows and stain-grade casing, carrying it throughout the dining room and kitchen. New oak flooring seamlessly laces into the original oak flooring in the living room. A new cased opening to the living room marries the rooms, retaining the original cove crown molding. Traditional details stylize the kitchen at every turn.

The reinvented expanse is perfect for entertaining. Guests can effortlessly flow from room to room. As the party quiets down, efficient storage and clear access to the basement laundry make clean-up a breeze. The homeowners are completely delighted with the beauty and function of their interior renovation.
Floor Plan – Before And After

Eliminating the chimney and fireplace opens up the floor, allowing for an easy traffic flow perfect for entertaining. This expansive layout allows light to flood throughout the main floor.

The stunning island waterfall creates a focal point of elegance and sophistication as you enter the home.
Features Old And New
Matching the original stained fir window trim and oak floors adds warmth and character to the space. A new under-the-counter beverage center tucks nicely behind the dining table, providing easy access for guests.

A contrasting blue painted island is set off with brushed brass hardware. The cabinetry is loaded with storage, a garbage pull-out, and an inset microwave. The original cove crown molding was replicated and reinstalled around the new cased opening for a seamless look.

A graceful custom wood hood with a substantial exhaust system emphasizes the traditional beauty of the home. Contrasting quartz countertops add interest and variety to the color palette. Layered lighting with ample natural light, recessed LED can lights, pendants over the island, and undercabinet lighting illuminate the space in a big way.

The Ultimate In Functionality
Versatile seating gently tucks under the island countertop. Perfect for a cup of tea with a friend, a holiday baking day, or even a late-night work session. The range is moved to the sink wall to allow for endless landing space and a functional exhaust system

The neutral perimeter sink wall is overflowing with thoughtful design details that help to stylize this kitchen.
A discreet cabinet panel hides the Miele dishwasher. Beside it sits a lovely Kohler farmhouse sink.
A custom curved wood hood adds an eye-catching sculptural element, with strong vertical lines defining the kitchen area.
A recessed niche is centered below the hood as convenient storage for oils.
Dazzling ceramic wall tile runs counter to ceiling, adding texture and class in a historic approach.

Moving the range provides better access to the sink and dishwasher, for better workflow.

Every Dream Kitchen Needs A Focal Point
This gorgeous Stratus Cascadia quartz waterfall countertop instills an heir of refinement that is well suited for this charming cottage. Our fabricators did a phenomenal job of vein matching to ensure a seamless look. The rich blue island perfectly highlights the deep delicate veining. A polished finish allows for light reflection and easy maintenance.

The Cascadia island quartz is repeated in the range niche ledge, pulling the perimeter and island finishes together nicely.
Cabinet storage is maximized at every turn. Endless pull-outs and eliminating all corner cabinets allowed us to make use of every inch.

From Closed & Cramped To Open & Spacious
A once small and cramped dining room is now open and inviting. The ceiling, once water-damaged and decaying, is now leveled with fresh sheetrock and paint, retaining as much character as possible through carpentry details and finishes.

Award-Winning Residential Interior Remodel – Challenges Met And Exceeded
Working in older homes has been known to present its challenges.
In order to achieve the desired layout and avoid a post, it required the addition of 2 beams, one recessed into the floor framing above, and the other to carry that beam, as well as a support in the basement.
Installing custom cove molding around the ceiling proved to be a challenge, where floors and ceilings were very out-of-level without some serious modification. Great care was also taken to cope the crown around the cabinet molding to successfully turn the corner.
We were careful to install the appropriate style and type of insert window to not compromise the overall style of the home and historic district requirements.
As a cost savings, we opted for semi-custom cabinetry. Ultimately some doors and drawers arrived damaged which threatened to hold up our overall schedule. We pivoted to work on other tasks waiting for them to arrive. Fortunately, we had a strong direction on materials from the very beginning, with very little change mid-project. That helped keep both budget and schedule on track amidst unexpected hiccups.
Overall, it was a very enjoyable project and the clients are beyond happy with the end result!
